TRAVEL TIPS

Getting Here and Around

You can reach the area by walking across the Dvortsovyi (Palace) Bridge (it starts near the Hermitage), passing through the Strelka, and then across the smaller Birzhevoi Bridge. On your right you'll see the Peter and Paul Fortress: the walk will also give you a chance to take in a panorama of the city's grandest sites, including the Hermitage, the Neva River, and the Strelka. You can also take trolley 1 or 7 from Nevsky prospekt, or hire a taxi. Another option is to take the metro to Gorkovskaya station, and from there walk through the park in the direction of the fortress, which remains the major site in the area. The Artillery Museum is across from the Fortress. You'll recognize it at once by the World War II–era cannons.
